{"id":1954,"date":"2019-06-24T00:00:38","date_gmt":"2019-06-24T06:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.melaniebnewman.com\/staging\/9944\/?p=1954"},"modified":"2022-04-18T15:33:47","modified_gmt":"2022-04-18T21:33:47","slug":"sleeping-soundly-each-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.melaniebnewman.com\/staging\/9944\/sleeping-soundly-each-night\/","title":{"rendered":"Sleeping Soundly Each Night"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After months of not sleeping well I was fascinated to learn that there is a \u201c<strong>fundamental solution to insomnia.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I know that quality sleep is essential in allowing the body to recover from stress and fatigue and to revitalize the body\u2019s ability to self-repair.<\/p>\n<p>Many suggestions are offered to help us sleep better, such as<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>creating a calm environment<\/li>\n<li>practicing a restful night-time routine.<\/li>\n<li>matching your routine to the natural rhythms of nature, i.e. daily, monthly, seasonal rhythms, etc. (This is a topic to discuss in another \u201cWeekly Insight\u201d). \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<li>not eating late at night<\/li>\n<li>not using electronics before going to bed<\/li>\n<li>retiring and arising at the same time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I had always believed that there are many reasons for not sleeping well, ranging from physical to mental to emotional, so <strong>how could there possibly be just one fundamental solution<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Deepak Chopra explains,<\/p>\n<h3>The basic solution to insomnia<\/h3>\n<p><em>\u201cThe real solution for the sleep problems you encounter at night lies in what happens during the day. All these time periods are related, and to focus on one without considering the other can lead only to short-term solutions. Activity and rest go hand in hand, therefore we must pay attention to what happens during the day. If the period of activity is somehow imbalanced, that will be reflected in the period of rest.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe solution to all sleep problems lies in making the period of daily activity truly dynamic and satisfying. In other words, when you\u2019re awake, be fully awake. This is the fundamental answer to insomnia and the solution for many of the apparent problems of life as well. When you\u2019ve learned to experience pure wakefulness, liveliness, and dynamism, good sleep will come naturally.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He continues,<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe French philosopher Montaigne wrote, \u2018When I dance, I dance. When I eat, I eat.\u2019 It sounds so simple, but <strong>are you really there when you\u2019re there<\/strong>, whether it\u2019s a place or a moment in time? <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSo much in the contemporary world undermines our ability to be truly in the present, which is a crucial element of enjoying life.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cInsomnia, which so often is filled with regrets about the past and worries about the future, is in a sense the exact opposite of living life with a present-moment focus.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cActivity and rest go hand in hand, therefore we must pay attention to what happens during the day.
