But how much more enjoyable would it be to <b>see the good or even the humor during the challenge?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">For example, our family\u2019s Easter Sunday turned out enjoyably, though it easily could have been a disaster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">Challenge No. 1<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">As I was getting the meal ready early Easter morning, the sink plugged up. My husband spent the next few hours resolving the situation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">Challenge No. 2<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">Then in the midst of my shower later that morning, the water stopped. Turns out our pipes had frozen. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">My husband moved from fixing the plugged sink to thawing the pipes only to discover we still had no water! There was concern that the pump itself had burned up. Something which could not easily be resolved that day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">Challenge No. 3<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">With no water to wash dishes, my hope for a beautifully set table with crystal glasses and Sunday best dishes were demoted to paper cups, plates and plasticware. Ease of cleanup became more important than a picture perfect table.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">The Solution<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">With dirty dishes from the preparation of dinner, piled as neatly as possible on the counters and filling the dishwasher in the hopes of water on the morrow, <b>we enjoyed are time together as a family as we focused on the purpose of Easter.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">We spent time studying the scriptures and talking of our feelings for our Savior, Jesus Christ. We video chatted with family members in other locations. We took naps and spent quiet time being grateful for our many blessings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">Water would be restored, sooner or later, but relationships are ever-present. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><b><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">Why would I jeopardize the sweetness of those relationships with frustration because of temporary problems?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">I wouldn\u2019t. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">Many problems could always interfere with our focus, so <b>it\u2019s up to us to determine how to respond to the unexpected and unplanned.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">I love the words of President Russel M. Nelson who said,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">\u201cMy dear brothers and sisters, the joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives. When the focus of our lives is on God<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt; font-family: 'Arial Unicode MS';\">\u2019<\/span><i><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">s plan of salvation\u2026and Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening\u2014or not happening\u2014in our lives. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><i><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">Joy comes from and because of Him. He is the source of all joy. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\" style=\"text-align: center;\" align=\"center\"><b><i><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">Joy is powerful, and focusing on joy brings God<\/span><\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt; font-family: 'Arial Unicode MS';\">\u2019<\/span><b><i><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">s power into our lives<\/span><\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">I invite you to find comfort during your challenging situations\u00a0 by focusing on what truly brings us joy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 13.0pt;\">With love,<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"BodyA\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-462\" src=\"https:\/\/www.melaniebnewman.com\/staging\/9944\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/signature.png\" alt=\"Melanie Newman\" width=\"223\" height=\"73\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Finding joy during challenging circumstances isn\u2019t always easy.
