I\u2019m a pseudo farmer. My husband is the real farmer. And because I\u2019m a transplant to this wonderful, little farming community and way of life, my understandings and explanations of the workings of the farm are pretty basic.<\/p>\n
Here are a couple of observations:<\/p>\n

- Most often when driving a tractor, you\u2019re pulling another (huge) piece of equipment behind you \u2013 rakes, baler, disc ripper, plow, etc.<\/li>\n
- Tractors are built for men.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
When I get in, my feet don\u2019t always reach to the floor of the cab. (Yes, you can laugh). Add to the equation, springs on the seat, and you will see me bouncing, thumping, even flying around the inside of the cab as I drive back and forth across the field. I\u2019ve even \u201ctaken to the air\u201d and left the seat a couple of inches as I\u2019ve gone over particularly rough ground. I don\u2019t think my husband has this problem. He weighs more than I do and his feet are firmly planted on the floor.<\/p>\n
All I can do is grip the steering wheel and keep the tractor moving forward<\/strong>. But lest you forget, there\u2019s a lot of activity going on behind me. Remember, a tractor is usually pulling something important behind it.<\/p>\n
Though I know how to drive in a straight line, the fact that I am constantly needing to turn and look behind me, to make sure the hay is feeding into the equipment correctly and that the machinery is functioning properly means, I run the risk of getting off course<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
